The Friesian Horse

In the north of the Netherlands, near the border with Germany is a province called Friesland, known as one of the most beautiful in the area, especially due to the large number of lakes that can be found in it. This area is from the Friesian horse, the only breed of Dutch origin which can still be found today.

The origin of this breed is very old, as there is evidence of its existence around the year 150 after Christ and already appears in the chronicles of the Roman historians, because the Friesian horses were widely used in wars. Later, the breed began to be used in the riding school, but also used to work on farms in the area of Friesland.

It is currently used mainly in western equestrian exhibitions both in high schools as riding where horses often perform learning tasks, mainly because they are animals with a very docile nature, which facilitates their training.

From its appearance primarily include mane tail and neck, which are thick and heavy and are usually wavy, and limbs, which are also usually covered with fur. As layers, the most common examples are jet black, but dark brown allowed. Not allowed to submit any stain, except for a small white star.

As we said, are very docile and calm horses, but also have character. Shines through his work capacity, as their physical strength and endurance makes them suitable to work in many activities with humans.
